Five months old! Blimey, it seems a lifetime ago that we brought Venn home and at the same time the months have gone in a flash.
So what do we know now that we didn’t in July?

Well, I’m reconciled to the fact that I am the owner of a small dog. I look at the owners of other small dogs, and they seem perfectly happy about it, so I keep telling myself there must be an up-side. Looking at the photos though, even I would have to concede that she has grown a bit over the last 3 months. Well the spaniel bit of her has grown, but despite her pedigree, the border collie bit is keeping a very low profile.
Other things:
Our small, non-collie dog has plenty of energy, but not too much (perhaps we were desensitized by Kip), has a thirst for exploring, and has very much overcome her initial dislike of being wet. Despite constant exposure to Kip, she has managed not to become a barky-dog, and is taking to her lessons well. Although not massively food-motivated, she has managed some remarkable achievements in her training considering her age, although there are days and environments where she is still fairly unbiddable. She enjoys searching games, which bodes well for her chosen profession, and over the last week or so, I have the impression that she has started using her nose rather than her eyes to search. All good.
Areas for improvement include getting her to stop plaguing the life out of Kip when they are in the same room, and walking to heel which seems a bit of a blind spot in the otherwise reasonable obedience portfolio.
A notable event this week was us leaving the dogs with Jayne our dog-sitter, while we took a few days away. The haunted look in her eyes on our return spoke of a challenging time, and by her own admission she had forgotten how much work puppies are.
